Meeting began with an icebreaker of what we did over the holidays. Each of us presented what our designated partner did.
Maxie then presented our guest speaker Mike Arms, Director of the Hellen Woodward Center and his VP of Business Development, Renee Resko.
Special Presentation by Mike Arms is posted on our facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/RotaryEClubSanDiegoGlobal/?ref=bookmarks
In short, Mike, a native of Kentucky, was raised in a farm, went onto New York on a journey to explore a new career and beginning. Life took him by surprise as he almost lost his life. However, thanks to a stray dog living on the street he survived and since then he has dedicated his life to helping save pets that would otherwise be left on the street and ultimately euthanized. Mike has gone to many countries around the world to spread his message and bring awareness to the issue. He gives the adoption of an animal a new meaning by truly marketing them not as animals, but as pets. In the end the way he runs the Hellen Woodward center parallels the way in which a business runs. Marketing is key. His message is very compelling and all of those in the room were taken away by his fantastic presentation. Our club would like to get engaged with the center by coordinating a group visit, volunteering in their upcoming 5k walk and telethon, along with possibly organizing a district project to collect pet food.
Maxie then followed with an announcement of upcoming volunteer opportunities at the migrant shelter, to help incoming migrants. Date to be announced. And also encouraged all of us to periodically check the 7 club partnership online posting for more volunteer events.
Finally, nominations are being accepted for the new incoming board for President-elect Carmen Diaz’s term. Please email your nomination to firstname.lastname@example.org We plan to hold final elections at the March meeting.
Attendance is strongly encouraged on February 12th as we welcome District Governor, Mel Gallegos to our meeting. Location to be announced soon.
